The evidence review in one minute
Four key evidence points
Regulatory evidence
Distance preserved; intermediate and near extended versus monofocal.
Distance BCDVA met prespecified non-inferiority; DCIVA at 66 cm and DCNVA at 40 cm met superiority criteria. Monofocal is the comparator, not a contemporary trifocal.
Review p. 05 · reference 1Quality of vision
Range comes with a measurable photic trade-off.
Halos and starbursts were more frequent at 12 months. Night-driving difficulty moderately favoured monofocal; contrast differences were not clinically meaningful in the FDA assessment.
Review p. 06 · reference 1Material transition
Two 24-month randomized comparisons support continuity of visual behaviour.
Hydrophobic POD F GF was compared with hydrophilic POD F. Finite follow-up and attrition limit the long-term inference.
Review p. 07 · references 2–3Evidence boundaries
Family history does not establish HP-specific comparative superiority.
Longer-term outcomes, material-specific PCO/glistening implications and broad comparisons with current alternatives remain open. The FDA device-handling finding has a defined denominator and mitigation context.
Review pp. 08–10 · references 1, 4, 8OIE interpretation
A mature idea, with a defined clinical bargain
FineVision HP is best understood as a hydrophobic implementation of an established trifocal optical design. The direct HP evidence now includes a substantial randomized regulatory trial. It supports functional range while documenting a measurable quality-of-vision trade-off.
